proposition 8

OK, i think there's an election or something coming up soon. one of the things i've been seeing bumper stickers for is Prop 8, the "Protect Marriage" amendment to the constitution of California. The California Supreme Court ruled that Prop 22, a previously passed proposition, was unconstitutional.
here is the text of prop 8, via protectmarriage.com:
"Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid and recognized in California."

Thats the whole thing.
So I went to the above-noted site, which seems to be the main Yes on 8 site, and looked at why i should vote yes on prop 8. Here's their points on what a yes vote will achieve:
Voting YES on Proposition 8 does 3 simple things:

It restores the definition of marriage to what the vast majority of California voters already approved and what Californians agree should be supported, not undermined.

It overturns the outrageous decision of four activist Supreme Court judges who ignored the will of the people.

It protects our children from being taught in public schools that “same-sex marriage” is the same as traditional marriage, and prevents other consequences to Californians who will be forced to not just be tolerant of gay lifestyles, but face mandatory compliance regardless of their personal beliefs.

That seems to be the long and the short of it.
i personally don't believe our state, or federal, government should be involved in personal contracts between consenting adults who've achieved their majorities, period. if you want to marry someone, do it. thats between you, your spouse, and your god or lack thereof. The three points they claim give me pause, however. are they even worth going after?

First off, It restores the definition of marriage to what the vast majority of California voters already approved and what Californians agree should be supported, not undermined.
I suppose we will find out what the "vast majority" of people approve of NOW, which is the only important bit. and 61% of people who opt to vote is NOT a vast majority (61% is the margin they claim for prop 22 eight years ago). it's a substantial one (of voters, not of the population as a whole), sure. but the greater part of a decade and 8 years of having to swallow "cultural conservatives'" shit may change some people's minds. we'll have to see, right? that's what elections are for.
Next, It overturns the outrageous decision of four activist Supreme Court judges who ignored the will of the people.
This old canard has been around for a long time. I'm willing to bet you can find heartfelt, emotionally charged claims of the same stuff from those defending slavery, denying women the vote, and segregation. The supreme court is NOT activist. that's a made-up pile of shit from activist fucktards. The supreme court (of california) interprets law in regards to the constitution. That's their job.
Finally, my favorite: It protects our children from being taught in public schools that “same-sex marriage” is the same as traditional marriage, and prevents other consequences to Californians who will be forced to not just be tolerant of gay lifestyles, but face mandatory compliance regardless of their personal beliefs.
This one is simple: BACK IN THE CLOSET, FAGGOTS! That's what the preceding two are for, this one just tries to dress it up with something that will let those who are kind of uncomfortable about men cornholing each other, but not such fully invested nazi assholes, be able to vote yes on their odious piece of excrement. 1) I'm fine with children being taught about same-sex marriage. Honestly. Do you teach your kids "When a man and a woman love each other very much, they get married, then engage in coitus in the vagina using the man's penis. sometimes in the butthole, mouth and armpit. and sometimes the man pees on the woman. and sometimes she ties him up and steps on his testicles, then runs her tongue around his butthole. that's what a married couple does!"? Of course not. you get the first sentence. you won't go into a detailed description of what a gay couple does in the bedroom, which is what gets these idiots so worked up. i love the revealing "will be forced to be tolerant" bit too...so they would have been tolerant, but dad gum it, you caint force me!
in the end, it's about exclusivity. the straights have zero on the line. nothing. zilch. zip. if gays can get married, it will affect them not one bit. if their straight kids learn about gay marriage in school, it will affect them not one bit. if their gay kids learn about it at school, it will make them not feel like total pieces of outcast shit like everything else the "Yes on 8" people do. that's their problem. Marriage is THEIRS, not anyone else's. it's their god-thing, and no one gets to horn in on it. They'd rather have Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston get a shotgun marriage with her belly poking out half a yard (that marriage is just gonna end up great, dontcha know) than let two established, loving adults choose to spend their lives together in legal matrimony.
straight people have nothing on the line, and will gain slightly less broken, hurt, damaged gay children in the bargain. they may actually learn to not treat their own children like monsters! who knows, miracles can happen.
gay people, however, have their very recognition as humans on the line. the religious crackpots don't realize, i think, that they're losing their soul over this, they're losing their humanity. when you torture, exclude, and try to eliminate others, you lose part of what makes you human. i hope they figure it out before it's too late.
damn that's a rambler of a post. Vote No on 8.
