Justice Antonin Scalia is a fucking crazy son of a bitch. He says torturing people is just fine if it can stop an imminent attack. Of course, he fails to mention that it's been tried with limited success and every time has left the nation torturing in worse position than before. Not to mention that it almost never works to get useful information. So not only are the torturers sacrificing their souls, they're doing it for almost nothing.
WaPo did a story, Atlantic Monthly did too (this is the author talking about it, it's apparently not available online). The French realized they gained nothing and lost much in Algeria...a war where they won all the military engagements and lost anyways. Sound familiar?
